1 & 1/2 cup sugar
1 cup chopped dates
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup chopped pecans
2 tsp. butter
2 tsp. powdered sugar 

Cook sugar, dates and milk in a large pot until mixture forms a soft ball when dropped into cold water. (drop a small amount in to check.) Remove from fire, set pan in bowl of cold water. Cool until lukewarm. Add chopped nuts and butter. Beat until thick and entirely cold. Turn onto a board dusted thickly with powdered sugar and knead until well molded. Roll into long cylinder about 1 to 2" in diameter and let stand at least 24 hours.

Slice and serve.
